12:00-1:00 p.m. Garden Art Vendor We welcome back Jaye Hilton as our member artist. She will sell items from her I Heart Hostas line of house and garden wares. She accepts Zelle, Paypal, cash. and checks. All members are encouraged to bring a guest (which also gives the member an extra ticket in the raffle!).
1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. - Guest Speaker's topic: "Dragonflies in Our Garden" by Cindy Crosby “Dragonflies in Our Garden” will be the topic by speaker Cindy Crosby at our Spring Symposium on May 4on during the presentation. From their unusual life cycle of transformation, mystifying migratory habits, and their struggle for survival, there is plenty to discover and marvel about. Hear their cultural history, including some of the myths and superstitions that surround them. See close-up photography of some of our dragonflies in Illinois, then discover how you can garden to attract these remarkable flying creatures. Crosby is a writer and instructor who specializes in tallgrass prairie ecology, prairie ethnobotany, dragonflies and damselflies, spring wildflowers, the history of trees in America, gardening with na ve plants, and more. She is a Master Gardener and teaches in the Master Naturalist program. She is the author, compiler or contributor to over 20 books. Her most recent book is: Chasing Dragonflies: A Natural, Cultural, and Personal History (Northwestern University Press). This presentation will be presented in-person and we will be following all CDC guidelines to continue to keep all members and presenters safe. Currently CDC is not requiring masks, but if you want to wear a mask, please feel free to do so.

Sponsor Plant Pick-Up-on May 4, 2025 Education Center - 11:40 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. Cantigny Park We will meet in the Education Center. BRING A FRIEND who might like to join NIHS. From the intersection of Winfield Road and Roosevelt Road (State Route 38) you will head east. The first turn to the right (North) is Shaffner Road. Off of Shaffner Road you will take the first right (West) to the Greenhouse parking lot. On the right side of the Greenhouse looking North you will see the Pond Pavilion. Your plants will be there for pickup. You can then place them in your vehicle prior to moving on to the Education Center for the presentation. Plants will not be distributed during the presentation. You can see Mike Kraus after the speaker is finished to pick up your plants.
If you park in the visitors parking lot off of Winfield Road, you will need to walk or take a shuttle to get to the East side of Cantigny Park. Thank you for your participation in the Sponsor Plant program.
