The Northern Illinois Hosta Society (NIHS) was founded in October 1992 by a group of people that shared a passion for hostas. The society is dedicated to educating the public and promoting the use of hostas in the landscape. NIHS works closely with the American Hosta Society and the Midwest Regional Hosta Society planning and hosting hosta events and donating to hosta research. NIHS is a not-for-profit organization that serves the people of Northern Illinois and surrounding areas.
We are a group of people connected by our love of hostas, the most versatile and popular perennial plant in the country. Our members enjoy sharing their hosta knowledge and experience, and we invite you to explore our site and use the resources provided here.
Whether you are an NIHS member, a visitor or a budding hostamaniac feeding a passion, you've come to the right place. You will find a lot of useful information here.
In addition, we maintain and continue to add to the
Cantigny Park Hosta Garden through our donations or purchases. Many of our members volunteer and donate their time at least twice a month to help in the AHS garden at Cantigny. This garden is an American Hosta Society (AHS) National Hosta Display Garden. Come browse this lovely garden and stay for a while.
Our members come primarily from the Chicago metropolitan area, but hosta lovers from anywhere are welcome. If you are not presently an NIHS member, we encourage you to consider what we have to offer. You can find our membership form located under the "About Us" tab on our website and you might also want to connect with us through our facebook page and that button is located below this article.
On behalf of the Northern Illinois Hosta Society, welcome to our website. This site is designed to be a valuable resource enabling you to learn more about shade plants (hostas and companion plants) for your garden.
